Dysphagia Mealtime Management
Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, is one of the most serious and preventable risks in aged care and disability support. It can lead to choking, aspiration, and aspiration pneumonia. Mark Institute Australia's five hour Mealtime Management and Dysphagia course gives care workers the practical skills and confidence to support clients safely at every meal, in line with speech pathology recommendations, individual mealtime plans, and the IDDSI framework.
The course aligns with the NDIS Practice Standards (Core Module, Mealtime Management) and the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards (Standard 5, Clinical Care; Standard 6, Food and Nutrition). It supports safe practice for aged care workers, disability support workers, home care staff, and anyone responsible for mealtime assistance.
This is a non accredited professional development course and does not cover severe dysphagia management under the NDIS HIDPA standard, which requires separate training delivered by an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
